Southampton 1 Manchester United 2 highlights 29/1/11
Southampton's only major honour to date is the 1976 FA Cup where they were victors over Saturday's opponents, Manchester United. The match cluminated with Bobby Stokes scoring in the 83rd minute against, on the day, a very lacklustre United side. The last time the 2 teams met, which was roughly 2 years ago, in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, it was a comprehensive afair with United easing past the south coast club 3-0 with goals from Darren Gibson, Danny Welbeck and Nanu. That may be an initial psychological setback for the Saints but there will be no pressure on the npower league side and they are expected to lose against the premier league leaders and so will no go into the game with any real fear.
Manchester United are the team who has appeared in the most FA cup finals. 18 to be exact with 11 wins. Albeit their last triumph was back in 2004, beating Millwall 3-0, and since then they have appeared twice in the final and lost. Losing on penalties to Arsenal in 2005 and losing 1-0 to Chelsea in extra time in 2007. They also reached the semi finals in 2009, losing on penalties to Everton. So there is definitely a desire within the United camp to want to regain the trophy they, at the moment, have the best all time record in. The match takes place at the St Mary's Stadium and kicks off at 5:15pm.
