Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0 highlights 5/1/11
With an impressive record of 7 points out of 9 over the christmas period, Arsene Wenger will claim that his rotation policy is working wonders and the players that sat it out against Wigan were able to appear in the Birmingham fixture and produce the goods. The gunners see themselves in third, 2 points behind City and are very definitely in this season's title race after some sparkling performances and a solid run of great results including the match that very definitely stamped their authority on this season's race, the 3-1 win over neighbours Chelsea. Confidence about Arsenal breaking their 5 year wait for silverware has never been as high as it has been since 2005 and this could be a crucial season for the future of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.
The stakes look very ominous for city grabbing 3 points from the Emirates as the last time they were able to do that was 1975! Arsenal have won 21 of the 28 league and cup home games against City since then. After city's huge investments in the transfer market and their greatest displays in the highest tier of english football for the best part of 2 decades, expectation at Eastlands is higher than ever, especially as they currently lie 3 points away from City rivals United. If they were to break the hoodoo that Arsenal have over them at home and dent the challenge of their main rival it could make for a very exciting race this season for the premiership crown. City’s assistant manager, Brian Kidd, who played for both clubs in the 1970s, commented: “All games are big. It is another three points up for grabs just the same as Blackpool. They [Arsenal] beat us fair and square in the first game but I repeat that I wouldn’t change our squad for any other. I don’t fear any team in the league."
