Blackburn 3 Liverpool 1 highlights 5/1/11
Blackburn have struggled since the shock axing of Sam Allardyce from the hot seat. They've averaged one point per game and with Allardyce, they were achieveing 1.5 points per game, a tally that would have helped them steer clear of the drop. Rovers go into this fixture with the ominous knowledge of only having won once in this match in the last decade. Owners, Venky, have declared that they now want a target of 43 points this term after the shakey start to the season. Before the start they were hoping for 57 points at the end of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are in an uncertain position with the management and the executioner's axe stays hovering over Roy Hodgson's head after Liverpool's string of below par performances and Hodgson's unsavoury words towards the Anfield faithful following their miserable defeat to Wolves last week. On Sunday, Joe Cole possibly spared the chop from the boss with a last gasp winner against Bolton but a defeat to lowly Blackburn could see Hodgson too perilously close to the edge. They currently lie six points off the drop zone, 11 points away from the champions league qualification spots and a vast 19 points away from leaders Manchester United. A position far from the Liverpool board's expectations going into this season. A lot of the reason why the reds have fallen short this season is their woeful away record which reads one win, two draws and six defeats. If tonight signals a seventh defeat, it may be Hodgson's last show...
