Watch Kazakhstan vs Germany european championship live
Tonight sees a tricky trip to Kazakhstan for the Germans who will have to overcome obstacles if they are to maintain their 100% record continued with last Friday's 3-0 defeating of Turkey, in the group and see themselves on the right road to sailing confidently into the european championships in 2 years. The Germans flied out to Kazakhstan yesterday morning and had to take training at 11pm last night as that is the time tonight in which they commence battle against the nation which used to part of the Soviet Union. They also have to play on an artificial pitch at 0 degress freezing point temperatures which may present an opportunity for the group A leaders to hiccup.
German full back Philipp Lahm speaking ahead of tonight's tie says the team knows how they have to be mentally ready for any hardships that come their way during the match. "Our aim has got to be to travel there and get the three points," he told German sports channel Sport1.de. "But for that to happen, we have got to concentrate and be well prepared. The long flight and the unusual conditions there should not be an excuse - if we play as we can, then we will also win. We have made a perfect start with nine points from three matches and that is immensely important as it gives the team self-confidence, but the win against Turkey will only count for anything if we build on it in Kazakhstan," said Lahm.
It should mostly be "as you were" as far as the Germans lineup tonight with Mesut Ozil recovering from an ankle issue however Jerome Boateng and Kevin Grosskreutz have had to withdraw from the squad because of injury. Kazakhstan coach Bernd Storck however has his feet firmly on the ground about his side's chances and claims that a shock victory over the Germans would not do his side a lot of good.
"This is a great opportunity for my players to learn and develop," he said. "We are getting a lesson and demonstration at the highest level. We want to keep the game open for as long as possible and will try to create one or two problems, but there is nothing more than that in it for us. Germany are too stable. Results like the 2-1 win over Serbia in Euro 2008 qualifying make my job harder because they give people an unrealistic level of expectation. I am here to build a young side so that we can be competitive in the future."
