The champions are second in the league standings and have surrendered top spot and a healthy space between them and the chasing pack due to some poor form and them without a win in the league in three games. Their longest run of no wins in it since September 2007 when they went four without a win. 2 defeats on the trot at Birmingham and Sunderland was followed by them held to a 1-1 draw at Newcastle last week where Salomon Kalou saved a point for the Londoners after Andy Carroll put the toon army ahead early on.
Everton are in an even rougher patch. Going into today's match with Chelsea after the miserable 4-1 defeat at home to West Brom last weekend and they are on a five game winless streak in the league. They are hovering ominously above the relegation zone in 16th place and have only chalked up 3 wins thus far this season. The toffeemen are unlikely to be that optimistic about their chances of taking all the spoils tomorrow as they have won only once in 18 visits to Stamford Bridge since the premier league began, which sees them being defeated 9 times and drawing 8 times. However the last 4 trips to London have ended in draws which may be a good omen.
Team news for Chelsea sees John terry returning to their lineup after an injury layoff. The defender was sidelined with a sciatic nerve problem recently in his right leg but is raring to get back into the team. Michael Essien is also available after returning from a three match suspension after his red card against Fulham and Frank Lampard also has a remote chance of featuring but not probable that he will get fitness in time. Mikel Arteta is out after he has to serve the first of his three match ban following his dismissal against west brom. Arteta's no show will be a downer for Moyes' team but they will take some composure from the comeback of Marouane Fellaini, who is back after a suspension of the same length.
